Which holiday brings the most visitors to the Smoky Mountains?

Happy Saturday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!

If I didn't know better, my guess would be that a refreshing long weekend like Memorial Day, or maybe a heart-of-the-summer 4th of July getaway, or possibly Christmas in the Smoky Mountains (don't forget to watch Dolly Parton's own "A Smoky Mountain Christmas" movie  this year!) would be the week we see the most visitors, here in the Smokies. Tisn't, though; none of them. I always thought of Thanksgiving as the homey, turkey-at-Grandma's-house sort of holiday. Well, it turns out "Grandma's house" is a concept, not a location. Those extended families, whose big visit happens each year at Thanksgiving, gather from across the country right here, for the perfect family Thanksgiving, giving that 4th week of November the coveted top spot. What does the perfect family Thanksgiving entail, you might ask? I shall tell you, below the photo.
Cook Turkey here, The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com
First you'll need a cabin; a big cabin. It needs an open floor plan, with a great room that includes kitchen, dining room, and living room, so those cooking the feast don't miss any of the fun. Next, the kitchen needs to be spacious and well-equipped; you'll need a roaster pan, a turkey platter, no end of serving dishes and utensils, lots  of plates and cups, etc, and extensive counter space. If you were to find one like the kitchen pictured above, you would snap it up quickly -- it's ideal. And lastly, you need a game room to end all game rooms; preferably one featuring a jukebox, so the kids/kids-at-heart can be as loud as they'd like, downstairs.
Why does this all sound so familiar? Because The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com is the perfect Thanksgiving cabin: beds for up to 28, tons of square footage, thoroughly-equipped kitchen, spectacular game room... check out more of the cabin's amenities here . And by the way, yes, that's its kitchen.

Happy Thursday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!

Today's photo is momentous for two reasons. Reason 1, I'm finally presenting a photo from The Wears Valley Chalet at SmokyMountainViews.com, instead of The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com; reason 2, the fall colors of 2013 have officially arrived in the Smoky Mountains -- observe:
Fall foliage at The Wears Valley Chalet at SmokyMountainViews.com
They're telling us that fall foliage should last a long time this year, because we've had such a wet summer. We're expecting peak to come around the middle to end of October, with sights still well-worth seeing into the beginning of November. To book a one-bedroom cabin for this fall, click here. Happy Tuesday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!

Today is September 24. The difference between September 24 and October 13 is approximately one blink. I mention that because this photo is from October 13, 2012 (and of course it's the view from the deck of The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com). The foliage in the photo is looking pretty stunning -- that means it's time for you leaf-peepers to make your move.
Clouds breaking through, over the Smoky Mountains
The elevation in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park  ranges from 875 feet up to 6,643 feet. That piece of information that you politely smiled and nodded at is actually crucial -- it means that we enjoy gorgeous fall colors for a long period of time. Toward the end of September (aka, right now), the trees above the 4,000' elevation begin transforming, and we start watching the colors drift down the mountains into the valleys, over the next weeks, into early November. Five days ago, the Great Smoky Mountains Association reported that American Beech, Yellow Birch, and White Hobble are turning, up on the peaks... in addition to early turners like flowering dogwood, blackgum, sourwood, virginia creeper, and black walnut doing their part in the lower elevations.
Come see, people -- it's time!

Happy Tuesday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!

I have two spectacular pictures for you, today. Remember what I said a couple weeks ago about the difference you can see in the mountains, based on the weather? I was at The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com this week, during some darker weather, then watched the sun break through. Here's what it looked like. The first picture was taken at about 11:00 am. The second is only an hour later, sometime around noon.

It's also time to talk about last-minute discounts coming up. At our 5-person cabin, next weekend is available. Most of the time our last-minute deals end up being weekdays, since the weekends get booked more quickly, but this week we have an absolutely perfect Thursday through Sunday waiting for you. Visit the Wears Valley Chalet at SmokyMountainViews.com calendar to book now, and save 50% if your stay starts within two days!

If you're interested in our 28-person cabin instead, check out the availability calendar to see what dates work for you. Book a stay starting within 12 days to save 25% or book a stay starting within 6 days to get 50% off at The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com.
