Happy Saturday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!
You can't miss it when it comes through, so you'd better love it or stay out of Pigeon Forge for a couple days next weekend -- the 31st annual Shades of the Past Hot Rod Roundup is coming to town! As usual, the Rod Run is held at Dollywood's Splash Country. The official action is this September 6th and 7th (that's Friday and Saturday), but if you've been before, you know hot rods will be lining the strip down the center of town for days before and after. Check out the official rod run schedule, here. If you can't make this rod run, don't worry; there's one more big one coming up soon --  stay tuned for info about the Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run.

We love the location of our Wears Valley Chalet at SmokyMountainViews.com, because it's secluded and peaceful, but just minutes from the center of town. If you need a cabin for this Rod Run weekend, check out The Wears Valley Chalet at SmokyMountainViews.com.
If you have a big group, try The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com , where up to 28 people can enjoy the gorgeous cabin, in between seeing the sights.

Happy Thursday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!
Here comes Labor Day weekend! We know you love those long weekends, but do you know what to do once you get here? (By the way, if you don't have your cabin booked yet, better hurry up and book a Labor Day cabin here!) It's the Smoky Mountains, where we're all about showing visitors a good time, but you have to know where the good times are -- so let me tell you!

One event that you won't find every time you visit, but you will enjoy over Labor Day weekend is the Tanger Outlet Center  and Pigeon River Crossing sales. This weekend, the mixture of high-end to budget shops will pull out all the stops. In addition to the clothing, shoes, accessories, tools, and toys, there are a few restaurants and ice cream shops (and the essential Starbucks) in Tanger, where you can all meet up for lunch or an afternoon dessert.

The Inn at Christmas Place hosts a Labor Day tent sale in their parking lot, but don't stop there -- the Christmas Place is well worth a visit, any time of year.

The Sevier County Fair starts on Labor Day, September 2nd, at the Sevier County Fairgrounds. Enjoy livestock competitions, a youth talent shows, a beauty pageant, and all the festivities you can expect to see at a classic southern fair!

In addition to those Labor Day weekend-specific events, don't forget to hike the Great Smoky Mountains National Park , spend an afternoon at Dollywood, ride some ziplines, walk the shops of Gatlinburg, and countless other reasons vacationers love the Smoky Mountains!

Happy Tuesday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!

I was at The Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com on Saturday and stepped outside to snap some pictures. I take pictures every time I'm there, partly so I have current pictures for you guys, and partly because I like to keep a record of the change throughout the year, so when people ask about a particular month's fall colors or what the mountains look like on rainy days, I can say voila -- like this.

Today's photo shows a corner of the Hot Tub on the deck outside the Game Room ofThe Gatlinburg Lodge at SmokyMountainViews.com, but stealing the show as always are those stunning Smoky Mountains. Clearly the Hot Tub is a spectacular vantage point from which to watch the clouds float over the mountains.

Happy Thursday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!

You might want to take a look at the family's schedule and see about shuffling things around a little to make room for a last-minute weekend getaway, if you haven't already booked -- the forecast for this Saturday and Sunday is calling for perfect weather.
Friday, you might encounter a little afternoon rain, as you drive into town, but once you get here look for clear skies and sun. Temperatures should be in the 80-85° range, with nights about 20° cooler, at 60-65°. The beautiful weather and minimal chance of precipitation should last all the way through this week, so if you can stay a few more days, you'll love the weather.

That means you should spend your vacation enjoying the things you might miss on rainy days: the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, for example. One peak that Smoky Mountain aficionados hold particularly dear is Mount LeConte. You can choose from 5 different trails to scale the mountain, and reach the reward at the top. Before we talk about what's up there, let's take a look at your trail options. The Alum Cave Trail is short and steep -- 5.5 miles. Rainbow Falls and Trillium Gap are both about 6.5 miles. The Bullhead trail is 7.2 miles, and the Boulevard trail tops off the list at 8 miles.
Now what's at the top? LeConte Lodge, which was recently featured on The Today Show ( watch here), is the only one of its kind. The lodge actually hosts overnight guests up at the peak, in the national park itself. With 7 rough-hewn cabins and 3 multi-room lodges, maximum occupancy is 60 guests. Find all the answers to your questions about staying at LeConte Lodge on LeConteLodge.com
Since the lodge has no electricity and can only be accessed via the trails (pack llamas bring supplies up for staff), most visitors prefer to stay in a luxury cabin such as The Gatlinburg Lodge or The Wears Valley Chalet at SmokyMountainViews.com, and enjoy the incredible diversity of flora and fauna on the way up, as well as the rustic accommodations and the breathtaking top of the world view at the peak, as day-hikers. A shower, clean clothes, and a soft bed is the perfect end to an exhilarating day.
This week's picture shows local artist Robert A. Tino's LeConte Lodge print, depicting the rustic lodge up at the top of Mount LeConte. Click the picture for purchase information.
