Happy Wednesday, Smoky Mountain Lovers!
We're all pretty excited today, here in the Smokies -- just a few seconds ago, Dolly Parton finally revealed her "biggest announcement ever." We've seen some momentous announcements come out of Dollywood before, so that commentary gave us a clue that this one was going to be something special. Here's what she told us:
- Dollywood is getting a transformation, from amusement park to full-fledged resort, with accommodations as well as new rides and shows in the works. The resort will be called DreamMore, and is slated to open in 2015. The first waive of construction for the new resort will include 300 rooms, with lots of front porch space, as well fishing ponds, fire pits, hot chocolate, and lemonade.
- A new roller coaster, Fire Chaser Express, is aimed at families and will be coming to Dollywood next season, in 2014. Fire Chaser Express is just the first of the new rides and shows coming as part of Dollywood's makeover.
- A new show is coming to Dollywood this Christmas, in which Dolly Parton herself will star as a hologram.
- Every year right around now, new announcements will be coming from Dollywood to tell us what the next year's changes will look like.
- Just to give an idea of what kind of transformation we're talking, Dollywood executives are telling us spending on expansion in just the next decade will exceed total spending since the park's beginning, in 1986. Big changes coming your way, Pigeon Forge!
